Their comeback tour has a reputation for being the most in-demand of 2023. They completely justified this at the recently held EXIT’s Sea Star festival in Croatia. There, they poured their indestructible energy before the audience, performed classics and one completely new song, and once again secured their place in music history as a band that forever changed the direction of electronic music and created the most powerful rave anthems of all time.
The anticipation surrounding their performance at Petrovaradin Fortress is certainly reciprocated by The Prodigy, as the band’s creator Liam Howlett previously publicly revealed that EXIT is their favorite festival, and they adore the people of Serbia! They are arriving among their people in 14 days to remind us once again that life can be lived differently, fearlessly, wildly, and on our own terms.
Prominent figures from the local scene shared their experiences of this band’s music, energy, and influence. Among them are music critic Dragan Ambrozić, musicians Konstrakta and Bojana Vunturišević, then Nenad Milosavljević from the Njuz.net team, astrophysicist Tijana Prodanović, actress Miona Marković, Survivor participant Branko Milošević and fellow contestant Maša Kuprešanin, model Helen Babić, photographer Benny Gaši, YouTuber Milan Inić, and radio host Vojkan Bećir.
It was music critic Dragan Ambrozić who initiated the first concert of this epic band in Serbia back in 1995. This marked the beginning of the first chapter in the special connection between the mighty band The Prodigy and the local audience, a bond that was deepened for life through their subsequent performances at EXIT.
“They became the voice of a generation in Serbia in the ‘90s. The Prodigy is an eternal band, revolutionary not only in a musical sense but socially as well. They are the main protagonists of the rave scene, a visionary band, and their moment may have only just arrived,” says Ambrozić.
Ana Đurić Konstrakta, whose band Mistakemistake performed before The Prodigy at EXIT in 2007, describes this band as essential listening. “The Prodigy is really important on the world stage, as is the whole new wave they participated in,” she says.
Bojana Vunturišević has clearly stated that she “equates Sex Pistols and The Prodigy. “To me, they are the same blood type. The Prodigy is, for me, punk for a new generation. I remember them as the first change in my life. They had the most significant impact at the beginning of my musical-authorial adventure and are very important for my generation. We leaned on them in a way,” emphasizes this authentic musician.
The extraordinary astrophysicist Tijana Prodanović revealed her perspective on the creativity of this band, which according to the global music media outlet Billboard – can “transform a crowd in 30 seconds.” “That energy, when you hear that sound, it completely sweeps you off your feet! Nothing got the crowd going like The Prodigy! When ‘Voodoo People’ came out, it was total madness, completely different,” this scientist emphasizes.
Nenad Milosavljević from the Njuz.net team emphasizes that very few bands have managed to be mega-popular while simultaneously elevating a particular sound to an entirely new level. “The Prodigy managed to make that commercial breakthrough. Everyone listens to The Prodigy and can find something for themselves in their music. They are very important,” he adds.
Model Helen Babić says that “Firestarter” is a song that can get us moving whenever we lack energy! “The Prodigy has shown that they can mix different tones and make it all sound like a phenomenal symphony,” she describes.
Survivor participant Branko Milošev had this to say ahead of their performance at EXIT: “Without any exaggeration – it will be a historic moment.” Fellow contestant Maša Kupešanin states that this year at EXIT, she’ll head to the Main Stage first to listen to them. Miona Marković is also eagerly awaiting to hear them live for the first time. Vojkan Bećir reminds us that this band has an unbreakable connection both with Serbia and specifically with the EXIT festival, while photographer Benny Gaši adds – “I already have goosebumps.”
YouTuber Milan Inić speaking on behalf of all those who will listen to The Prodigy on July 6 with their favorite people, concludes: “This band brought my group of friends closer. When they were here last, that’s when I formed my EXIT crew. We survived the mosh pits, and that brought us together,” recalls Inić.
The Prodigy has given young people new energy, strength, a sense of freedom, rebellion, and revolution through music. The band boasts five #1 albums on the UK charts, 25 million records sold worldwide, two Brit Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, as well as nominations for Grammy Awards and the Mercury Prize.
With his masterful production skills, the band’s founder Liam Howlett has redefined the electronic music scene. Numerous leading global music names, including Skrillex, Pendulum, Fatboy Slim, Sepultura, Sleaford Mods, Rage Against the Machine, Kasabian, Chemical Brothers, and Enter Shikari have named him as a direct inspiration.
The anticipation will be over in 14 days – The Prodigy are arriving at Petrovaradin Fortress on Thursday, July 6.
